Today, Alexander Ovechkin comes off his two-game suspension for checking another player in a National Hockey League game

In two days, President Barack Obama will accept the Nobel Peace Prize. Last week he announced plans to send 30,000 more US troops into Afghanistan

To summarize; marketing is key, Obama’s logo is a brainwashing technique, get your kids out of college, burn all the college books especially those teaching “that evolution crap” –oh, and don’t install one of those analog-to-digital set-top converter boxes, because they are secret government brainwashing devices.

Rachel Maddow and Ana Marie Cox were hilarious as well.

I took this shot from my front porch this afternoon. I was on my way out to do my grocery shopping when I saw that basically everyone in the neighborhood was out waiting for the President Elect.

Something tells me this will not be the last time we see the Presidential limousine in “real” DC, outside of the monuments and government offices. There is work to be done in the community and this seems to be right in the President Elect’s wheelhouse.

Here’s hoping, anyway.

Here are the rest of my Inauguration pictures, including the ones I got at the We Are One concert at the Lincoln Memorial yesterday

John McCain told some whoppers last night, which had me yelling at the television (again).

The Record has outlined them here. Obviously that is an Obama website, so I’ve provided verifying links within the text here.

Some highlights:

McCain today said he had a new plan to allow the Treasury to purchase and restructure mortgages. The truth is that this is not a new proposal and is already part of the rescue plan that was signed into law. It was Obama, not McCain who called for this move two weeks ago.

My note: In fact, as recently as March, John McCain was against broad U.S. aid on mortgages. Obama issued a statement on October 1, 2008 where he sought to “…encourage Treasury to study the option of buying individual mortgages like we did successfully in the 1930s”

McCain said “I am not in favor of tax cuts for the wealthy.” While he once said that the Bush tax cuts were “too tilted to the wealthy,” now he wants to make them permanent.

McCain once again repeated the attack that Obama voted 94 times for higher taxes, calling it “his record.” This attack has been debunked by the Associated Press, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, CNN, the New York Times and FactCheck.org, among others.

McCain again attacked Obama on the surge, when news accounts show that Obama “said at the time” that the increase “could improve security in certain neighborhoods but that it would not solve the long-term political strife.” Meanwhile McCain said only 10,000 troops would do the job.

My note: In July, Senator Obama told Katie Couric, “Well, there’s no doubt the scary situation’s improved.” and “… we’ve gotta keep on making sure that we’re making progress on those fronts. What hadn’t changed was there’s still enormous suspicion between the Sunni and the Shii’a. And until I think that gets resolved and the central government is able to bring in Sunnis and give them confidence that their voices are heard, that their interests are met, that their constituencies are benefiting from oil revenues. Other steps that the government may be taking to improve economic opportunity, I think you’re still gonna … have a fragile situation there. ”

Senator Obama has not claimed that the surge did not reduce violence. His issue with the surge is that it did not achieve the political objectives of giving time to the Iraqi government to get things in order. It is easy to reduce violence with tens of thousands of our finest added to the mix.

We are going to see more and more lies as the McCain campaign flounders its way to the finish line over the next four weeks. This is a beaten campaign, and much like a cornered animal, it will lash out irrationally until this thing is over. There will be more of the Ayers/Wright stories that we’ve heard a thousand times since Hillary Clinton brought them up. There will be more incessant (if not exactly overt) references to Senator Obama’s “otherness,” and questions like “where did this guy come from?” from the McCain campaign and his supporters.

Some of it may stick. I suspect most of it won’t because if Hillary Clinton in her primary campaign didn’t drag it out already, it probably doesn’t exist. For that we have to thank her for strengthening Obama’s campaign. Just now hearing about Wright and Ayers would sink this campaign, but because America has already heard about the scary black preacher and the crazy leftist radical who is now a respected educator… We’re all just more concerned with how we’re going to pay the bills and what our retirement looks like.

McCain calls Obama “that one”

McCain refuses to shake Obama’s hand

This is a man that hates losing. The lower he drops in the polls the more you’ll see this.

Overall I was disappointed in the debate. I didn’t think the modified “town hall” format worked. I would like to see a face-to-face debate with free-form discussion between the candidates. Enough with the ads, and enough with the debate formats that are really just modifications of the same, tired format that is really more like a joint press conference than a debate. Let’s have an in-the-open public discussion of these important issues with lots of time for responding to everything.

I will say I thought Obama performed well while McCain came off as an annoyed, grumpy old man yelling at Obama to get off his lawn. I don’t think either candidate necessarily “won” but Obama looked more comfortable.

Also, I was seriously creeped out by Senator McCain’s repeated use of the word “goodies”
