Funk The War

A friend of mine asked me to record a 90-minute mix for Funk The War, which is planned for March 19, 2008 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq. This mix will be the part of the soundtrack for bunches of students dancing in the streets of Washington, DC in a peaceful (at least I hope it stays peaceful) protest of the Iraq War.

Most of the tracks are edited in some way by me, on the fly by extending, adding breakdowns, glitches, sampling some of my own original loops, etc. Fun stuff.

Enjoy!

Edit: apparently, my syndication hosed this so the link wasn't easily available. Here's the link to the post in my music blog

Weekend Update

What weekend? I worked on Saturday at the office for my full-time job and had a wine society dinner for my catering job on Sunday. I’m exhausted.

There was fun thrown in, however. Friday night was a good time celebrating my good friend’s birthday. Much beer and whiskey was consumed. Cigars were enjoyed.

The Capitals lost though, of course. I’m going to the game tonight, so hopefully they’ll pull out a win. This will be the first time I’ve gone to a game all year, and may be the last. I don’t plan on giving the Capitals organization a dime until they start doing some things to improve the product on the ice. George McPhee and Glen Hanlon need to go.

I had a bit of response on my first video blog, so I’ll probably do that again. I got a few comments on the YouTube page for my entry, but not on this website, so I’ll need to figure out how to get that traffic over to my own page. I’m trying to increase my current $0.84 in Google Adsense earnings. :P

Oh. One more thing. Please go here, buy one song and register for the iPod touch raffle. We’re trying to get a lot of exposure, so tell a friend, too! There are some free downloads up on the main website as well, including a couple of the artists doing holiday songs.

Anyway, work is insanely hectic so I’d better get back at it.

Come see me this Wednesday!

As I just mentioned over on my music-only/promo blog, I’m playing at Beyond in Dupont this Wednesday night at 8.

For those following me on Twitter or subbed to both website feeds, I apologize for the double notification. I’m working on a good way to prevent that. In the mean time, you’ll usually get an update here if there is something important over there.

Tubing, Infected Mushroom and iPhone Hackery

The weekend was jam-packed with good times. On Saturday, a bunch of us got together to go whitewater tubing. I had never been before, but was excited to go. Elizabeth and I liked it so much, we went again on Sunday! One thing I wasn’t expecting though was how much of an upper-body workout it could be. I’m actually sore today, particularly in the abs. I guess that is from half-sitting-up to sip my beer all day. I didn’t actually do too much paddling, but I’m sure that contributed. All in all, a very good time and I’m looking forward to going again.

After tubing on Saturday, Elizabeth and I napped and then went to Fur to see Infected Mushroom. They put on an awesome show and brought the whole 4-piece band, including the bad-ass guitarist who strolled out on stage wearing a KISS t-shirt and proceeded to rock the FUCK out, complete with obligatory rockstar poses. The tore it up and I had a great time. I had been a little concerned as I had never been to that venue and was a little worried that the crowd would turn things off for me. As a rule, I don’t like clubs with bottle service. It tends to bring an element of elitism and posturing that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Let’s just say I was very pleasantly surprised. The crowd was fine, and the staff was very professional throughout. I had no problems whatsoever, save the usual couple of folks that annoy me on any given club night.

In other news, I just hacked my iPhone with Installer.app. So far, the process has been completely painless. I’m poking around the available applications and will likely make a list of “must-haves” for hacked iPhones.

Dark Psytrance

I’ve recently been working more dark psytrance into my regular listening rotation. I had been taking a break from it for a while so it would be new for me again when I came back.

Now I’m looking forward to getting a mix together with some of the new dark stuff that is coming out.

Good times. Now I just need to make myself some time to work in Live.
