Capitals v. Rangers – Game 6

Off to Bugsy’s in Old Town Alexandria, where I watched the Game 3 victory. Trying to keep the good away game mojo. Watched Game 4 elsewhere and while the company was good, the game ended badly. So, taking the good company with me!

Again, I won’t be liveblogging. That worked well for Game 5 so why screw with a good thing?

Go CAPS!

I took these outside the White House with my iPhone at night, so forgive the poor quality.

Ol’ Teddy got it done.

Alex Ovechkin was signed to a 13 year, $124 Million dollar contract.

WASHINGTON — Alexander the Great has a contract worthy of his nickname — the first $100 million deal in NHL history.

Alexander Ovechkin signed a $124 million, 13-year contract extension Thursday with the Washington Capitals, a handsome reward for the charismastic 22-year-old Russian who has been a nonstop goal-scorer since coming to the NHL in 2005.

“I’m happy I stay here,” Ovechkin said. “It’s my second home. I like the fans. I like the team. I like everything here.”

This is awesome, and makes it much more likely that I’ll be a season ticket holder next season if job stuff goes well. I had my doubts about this organization, particularly with how long it was taking and their general willingness to deal for draft picks they later don’t do much with, and play “developing” players like some sort of farm team for the rest of the league, instead of locking up their assets.

This is a good day for hockey in Washington. With this kid and a few more pieces, there almost certainly be a Stanley Cup in DC.

Just another snow day in DC

Barely any accumulation on the grass, NONE on the roads and everything just slows to a crawl.

What I find particularly annoying is that even the Metrorail is hosed. Every winter, like clockwork, the trains start breaking down, tracks get slick, etc. They don’t seem to notice. I’m thinking about buying a box of calendars with November and December circled and shipping it to them, just as a heads up.

Sighing at NBC 4

Virginia’s primary on Feb. 12 is likely to be anticlimactic. It falls one week after the Super Tuesday primaries, which are likely to seal the nominations for both parties.

Gee, why don’t we just go ahead and do a little more to perpetuate the fact that “Super Tuesday” is the only primary day that matters. And what is with the news media still always using the old state abbreviations?
