In the morning I’ll do my third run in the Week 2 set for Couch to 5K. I screwed up the schedule last week because I had to postpone runs due to crazy torrential downpours in the evening. The mornings had been clear so Thursday morning I did Day 1 of Week 2. At any rate I wound up delaying my first run of the week until Thursday, and did the second with Elizabeth on Sunday.
I’m finding myself craving more running which is something I did not expect so early in the program. That is either a good sign or a set up for disappointment later when the program gets harder. I’ve been totally capable of everything so far, and I’m pushing myself to improve my pace every time. Unfortunately I haven’t been successful in that because of the nature of my running. I change courses pretty much every time so it is different terrain, different weather, sometimes with a running partner and sometimes without. The only problem I’ve had thus far was with the last couple of intervals on Day 1 of this week, with my breathing. I had asthma growing up but I haven’t needed any medication for it for years. I also haven’t been incredibly physically active for years, other than the gym. Sunday’s run was no problem, with a very satisfying push at the end. So it doesn’t look like it will be a hindrance right away at least. If it becomes a problem I’ll make a doctor’s appointment quickly so that I don’t break my stride. I’m feeling freaking AWESOME about it, and Elizabeth and I are hunting 5K’s to register for. We know we’ll do one in October, but I’d like to find one closer to the 9th week of the training if we can.
Thanks to Tim to sold me his old iPod, I’ve gotten set up with the Nike+ stuff and I’m having fun playing with that. I just need to start and stop my workouts on the iPod in time with the actual interval training part rather than screwing up my pace with the warmup and cooldown walks. It isn’t doing much for me now other than reporting my pace. I expect I’ll get more out of it when I’ve finished the C25K program and am just doing my own running. The pace numbers get skewed because of the extra walking and seeing not-so-great pace marks isn’t exactly an encouragement.
Anyway, I’ll knock out Week 2 tomorrow, then start Week 3 on Thursday. I’ll put a week between finishing Week 3 and starting Week 4 because I’ll be at Gaian Mind Summer Festival right in the middle of what would be Week 4, and waiting gives Elizabeth a chance to catch up so we can do Week 4 at the beach together when we go with her family. I will probably throw a quick extra run in there in the morning before I leave for the festival but running at the festival wouldn’t be optimal. It’s all gravel and hills.
