The October of McCain’s Discontent

Senator McCain’s contempt for Senator Obama’s very presence on this election’s stage with him is clearly boiling over.

McCain calls Obama “that one”

McCain refuses to shake Obama’s hand

This is a man that hates losing. The lower he drops in the polls the more you’ll see this.

Overall I was disappointed in the debate. I didn’t think the modified “town hall” format worked. I would like to see a face-to-face debate with free-form discussion between the candidates. Enough with the ads, and enough with the debate formats that are really just modifications of the same, tired format that is really more like a joint press conference than a debate. Let’s have an in-the-open public discussion of these important issues with lots of time for responding to everything.

I will say I thought Obama performed well while McCain came off as an annoyed, grumpy old man yelling at Obama to get off his lawn. I don’t think either candidate necessarily “won” but Obama looked more comfortable.

Also, I was seriously creeped out by Senator McCain’s repeated use of the word “goodies”

I would love to see that kind of thing too but the problem is they’d keep going and going without time limit. It would be like an eight hour marathon of the same topic just going back and forth. And neither one would give up.

Really? The handshake thing is a little far fetched. Quite often people don’t see another person reaching out to shake their hand. If you view that in a non-biased fashion it’s quite clear that that’s what happened.

And the “that one” comment… come on! Figure of speech. Why on earth are people so up in arms over this.

McCain did see Obama reach out his hand. He gestured towards his wife instead.

You’re right, it may be a stretch. But taken in context with the fact that McCain wouldn’t even *look* at him during the first debate, and the “that one” comment it looks to me like Senator McCain’s annoyance with having to put up with this whippersnapper has boiled over.

I’m not freaking out saying the “that one” comment is racist or something, but it most certainly is clearly dismissive. They are both Senators! McCain should show some respect.

“McCain did see Obama reach out his hand. He gestured towards his wife instead.” - he doesn’t look down. really look, doesn’t it look like he’s just gesturing to his wife as in he’s introducing them?

i’m not a mccain nut by any stretch of the means, i just giggle that that video made such a fuss. when i view it as just a video i see it as a quick “oh hey, this is my wife” type of thing. lots going on, probably honestly didn’t notice his hand reaching out. least his made an effort to say hi, friendly hand on the shoulder is a big more welcoming than a cold handshake IMO.

*shrug* it really just makes me giggle.

You’re a McCain supporter, so you’re going to see it through that lens. I’m an Obama supporter so I’m going to see it through that lens.

I just think if you look at the surrounding events it is pretty clear that McCain has little respect for his opponent. He barely looks at him in debates, has shunned him on the Senate floor when they are both back for votes, addressed him as “that one”, made gestures toward the audience at this debate while Obama was speaking. He’s just disrespectful.

So, whether or not he shook the man’s hand doesn’t really matter. There are plenty of other indicators.
