This is why I’m a Dennis Kucinich fan

Rep. Dennis Kucinich addresses the DNC

(UPDATE: Apparently, this line was edited from Kucinich’s speech: “They’re asking for another four years — in a just world, they’d get 10 to 20.” — They should have left that in.)

The first actual animated, fired-up speech of the Convention so far. It has been mostly dull, though Michelle Obama gave a great speech and her and the Senator’s little girls stole the show last night.

Barry Schweitzer was great as well.

Sen. Clinton did very well, too and gained some ground as far as regaining my respect for her, but I don’t expect it to change anything regarding her supporters taking their ball and going home and not supporting Sen. Obama. I do think that she made every effort in this speech to persuade those who could be persuaded. As for the rest, well if they are willing to support Sen. McCain when he is directly opposed to everything their candidate stood for when she was in the race, then not even she can change their minds. The PUMA crowd is already hunting for non-existent signals in her speech tonight indicating that she really sides with them and wants them to keep fighting. It is pathetic.

I hope the MSM will now shut up about the “angry Clinton supporters” and let them fade away. Every comment made about percentages of her supports saying this or that, and every interview with someone willing to cut off their nose to spite their face on this issue only adds fuel to the fire.

Must have been all the hot air

Or possibly the fact that bullshit is highly flammable…

FOX’s Skybox Flooded at the Pepsi Center

The Denver Fire Department, which has a crew stationed at the center all week, was able to respond quickly before 5 a.m. when the sprinkler went off.

The sprinkler was located on the club level in a skybox which had recently been renovated to host a news crew. It appears the skybox belongs to Fox.

After going off, the sprinkler released 50 to 100 gallons of water per minute and 9NEWS crews estimate it was on for around 5 minutes.

I know, I know. Two terrible puns in one post. I couldn’t help it.

Some Truth about “Drill Here, Drill Now”

From the American News Project, via Huffington Post

It’s important that people understand that opening up these areas to production will do little to nothing to reduce our gas prices, and we’re talking several years down the line regardless. The oil companies already have access to acres and acres of drillable land and sea that they aren’t using. Why not force them to produce on those areas if we’re so concerned about drilling “now” and “here.”

We need more effort towards renewable energy. Let’s see the GOP stage a congressional sit-in for that one. I’m sure their buddies at ExxonMobil should have no problem with that. I mean they want to stop the “war on the poor,” right?

More than that, we need leaders who will lead. America has spent too much time being told what it needs to hear and misled down these dangerous paths… How about a little truth in government for a change?

Quiet Tuesday Evening

It’s a pretty quiet Tuesday evening. My usual Tuesday practice/jam was canceled so I’ll probably fire up Live and plug in some controllers and futz around on my own a little later. I’m forcing myself not to do anything like work for the evening, as I need a little down time.

I snagged a new iPhone 3G over the weekend, and it is working about as well as expected. GPS is pretty neat, I’m loving the App Store (though I had that on my “old” iPhone) and the faster connection is aces as well. I recently grabbed iTouchMidi so I’ll be poking around with tying that in with Live.

I’m trying to figure out what to do with my account over at 12seconds.tv. Any ideas? Maybe only post in haiku? That will fit in 12 seconds. Other than that I have no idea but keeping a video blog to 12 seconds seems easier to handle than a full-on video production. Regardless, I’ll need topics. Maybe I can tweet some requests for topics and use it that way.

I’ve been reading Burning Blog and admiring the pictures of the setup of Black Rock City, and wishing I was going out there in a couple of weeks. Alas it was not meant to be this year with the new job and not having vacation or money saved enough to make a go of it. Next year is 99% (barring some crazy circumstance which is certain to happen between now and then like every year prior) sure that I will be there. I have a job that pays me enough that I can save, and provides enough vacation that I can spare a week to visit the desert. With three weeks of vacation, I should have enough for Gaian Mind Summer Festival, Burning Man and still have some left over to spread around for random other travel and such.

Here’s hoping. Planning will start for that soon, probably after the holidays.

Ok, time to watch some BSG.

Ok, maybe I will watch

I had been planning not to watch the Olympics, in silent protest. This story makes me want to watch now.

For seven years, China has dreamed of orchestrating every detail, athletic and political, of its glorious Opening Ceremonies to the Olympics. Now, one lean 1,500-meter runner from the United States, chosen by his teammates in an act of open defiance, may steal the show. Lopez Lomong, one of the Sudanese “Lost Boys” and a member of the anti-genocide group Team Darfur, has been chosen by his 595 U.S. Olympic teammates to carry our flag on Friday. What, we couldn’t find a Tibetan monk on the team?
