A Life Update

It has been a while since I posted anything actually about me and there have been a couple of new developments I’m excited about. I’ve been spending a lot of my little bit of blogging time I allow myself talking about the Presidential campaign. By the way, if you haven’t seen it you need to check out Sen. Obama’s speech on race in America from Monday morning.

Anyway, on to my own stuff…

Firstly, I got a new job! I’m a Senior Technologist (yay, vague titles!) with CompSci Resources, LLC. I’m working in DC, less than a mile from my house! Walking to and from work this week has been absolutely awesome. I’m able to go to the gym now, and I have much more time to decompress in the evenings. Best of all, I don’t feel totally burned out every evening when I get home and I actually feel like doing things with my free time. Plus, I’m going to be able to take every other Friday off, which is something that I’ve wanted to start doing for years. I’m loving it. The work itself is a little dull at the moment because I can’t actually do anything. There is a metric ton of paperwork that has to be processed before I have access to really do anything of importance. I’m helping out where I can and familiarizing myself with the work.

The job transition has been both good and bad, because while I wasn’t 100% happy with the work and my role at the previous job, I absolutely adore everyone I worked with. It was a hard thing to do to walk away from them after five years. Plus, there is always the question of whether or not the new job will be what I expected. Regardless, I think this is a good change so far.

Secondly, I am finally a proud Washington Capitals Season Ticket Holder for 2008-2009! A co-worker and friend from my old job, and my good friend Meredith went in together on four seats for the year. Look for us next year in Section 418, Row G, Seats 11-14. I’m SO incredibly excited about this. I’ve wanted season tickets for the Caps for at least a decade now and that is finally going to happen. Between the three of us, we have four seats, so that works out to several games where I’ll have all four seats to do whatever I want with, and various combinations of the rest of the games. The Capitals are playing like a team that wants it bad but is running out of time after a very weak start. If you look at the standings since Bruce Boudreau took over as head coach and ignore the previous games, the Caps would be in second place in the conference. They are really doing well and if they don’t make it to the playoffs I know they will come out harder and strong next season. So, I’m feeling good about the timing here AND I get access to this season’s playoff games at season ticket holder prices, if they make it. That rules.

Ok, bedtime.
