Yesterday I made my second ever campaign contribution.
I’ve posted before about Barack Obama, both recently and back in 2004 when I first learned who he was. Looking at the presidential contenders, especially on the Democratic side; Obama is the only one I can see that I can feel like I’m voting for someone, rather than against someone else. I have my issues with him as well, for example the big deal that is made about him not supporting the war in Iraq, when he wasn’t in a position at the time to vote on it.
But even considering the small amount of negatives, there’s just something about the man that is inspiring. For the first time in as long as I’ve been following politics, I’m truely inspired and hopeful about a candidate. Howard Dean was close for me (and the last time I contributed to a political campaign), but Obama is on a whole other level.
I encourage everyone to at least consider him, especially if you’re voting tomorrow in a Super Tuesday state.
Here are his stances on the issues.
Here is his “Yes, We Can” speech in New Hampshire, and here is a music video based on that speech.
Here is his speech to the 2004 Democratic National Convention, when I first learned of him and started to imagine that he would make a fine President one day: Part 1 and Part 2
Even if you don’t support Obama, please; Vote. Go out and vote in your state primary. If you’re concerned about your vote “not counting,” now is the time. Fewer people vote in primaries, so your vote means that much more.
Become educated about more than your one or two pet issues. Think big picture. Learn about the candidates.
This is our country, and we have been disconnected from the process for far too long.
