Dennis Kucinich to be Excluded from Debate

The Des Moines Register has excluded Dennis Kucinich from their debate tonight because his Iowa field director works from his home instead of a rented office. Their criteria simply requires a candidate have a campaign office and a full-time staff.

This is completely ridiculous, and insulting to each and every voter. Not only in the Iowa caucuses, but nationally as well. These last debates before the caucuses could be the most important media exposure for any of the candidates to get. It is entirely unacceptable to exclude a top-polling candidate, or any candidate for that matter from them based on such an asinine interpretation of the criteria.

In my opinion, this is another example of how the bigger budget wins the election. Because the Kucinich campaign isn’t being sent great gobs of money like some of the others, they have had to be frugal with their space rental options in Iowa, choosing to work from a home instead. Now due to something as simple as not spending money that doesn’t need to be spent, Kucinich has an even harder fight to get representation at the caucus. Isn’t useless spending something we discourage in our elected officials? Shouldn’t all of the candidates be encouraged to save money where possible?
