US Selling Arms to Saudi Arabia

Saudi arms sale may spark Bush-Congress battle

I seriously feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Fifteen of the nineteen attackers in the largest catalyst for this Administration’s “Global War on Terror” platform hailed from Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has been accused of funding terrorist activity, supports fundamental Islamic groups that grow and train these sorts of people, and is probably our BIGGEST concern on this issue… And we’re selling them weapons.

Meanwhile, we continue to fight a completely unnecessary and illegal war to their north, in a country that had nothing at all to do with anything before we went in and made it another breeding ground for terrorists and gave our enemies more reason to hate us. And to make it worst, our image is further tarnished and we’ve lost good allies in the process.

I guess the truth of it is though, if we’re going to sell these weapons to Israel, it’s only fair that we arm everyone else in the region, too, right? I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

*facepalm*

Thank you!

First, to Boing Boing for linking to the post on web zen, which linked to my Unified Theory of Bacon. It was picked up by Boing Boing on Friday and has permanently skewed my average page views.

Crazy hits, thanks to Boing Boing!

Thanks, Boing Boing!

Secondly, whoever it was that actually had a three-flavor sample pack of Baconsalt sent to me. I have no idea who you are, but you are awesome.

Thirdly, I guess I have to thank bacon! So delicious, and such a tasty catalyst for free stuff and for giving me my 15 seconds of e-fame. Being Boing Boinged is awesome, and BACON being the cause just makes it that much better.

Santa Delivers 37,000+ Copies of Constitution to Bush

Santa Delivers 37,000 Copies of the Constitution to President Bush

Americans from all over the country - more than 37,000 of them - asked that a copy of the Constitution be delivered to the President in their name and cordially requested that he make time in his busy schedule to read it.

“While I was going over the list of who’s been naughty and nice,” Mr. Claus said, as he prepared for his visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, “I heard from many people who feel the President hasn’t been doing a very good job of upholding his oath to ‘preserve, protect and defend’ the Constitution.”

Something tells me he’ll have no more interest in the Constitution today than he did when he called it “just a goddamn piece of paper” some time ago.

This one’s a gem.

xkcd on the writer's strike

I miss Jon Stewart making wry comments about political campaigns. What are we going to do without Cluster%$#@ To the White House 2008?

Thankfully, it looks like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will be returning to the small screen in January 2008!

Descendants of Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse break away from US

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The Lakota Indians, who gave the world legendary warriors Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, have withdrawn from treaties with the United States, leaders said Wednesday.

“We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us,” long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means told a handful of reporters and a delegation from the Bolivian embassy, gathered in a church in a run-down neighborhood of Washington for a news conference.

No idea how this will end. I hope it doesn’t end badly for the tribes. I don’t think it can become a larger Waco, since 1. The media are already publicizing this, so the government can’t just roll in without people knowing and 2. A lot of the people they’d use for that are overseas.

Should be interesting either way.
