Sometimes The Onion is right on. Okay, it is usually right on, but this one was particularly “on”
WASHINGTON, DC—In an unexpected move that shocked White House staff and stunned the nation, President George W. Bush arrived unannounced at the Oval Office Monday.
Bush, who flew in from his home in Texas, was greeted by security forces upon landing outside the White House, and quickly escorted through the building’s back entrance. Wearing a special suit-and-tie uniform intended to boost morale and show support for men and women serving in the Beltway, Bush entered the East Room at about 3:30 p.m. and addressed a bewildered but enthusiastic crowd of staff members.
According to the invitation, “$9.11 for Rudy” is an “independent, non-denominational grass-roots campaign to raise $10,000 in small increments to show how many individual, everyday Americans support ‘America’s Mayor’”
In fairness, Giuliani’s campaign is not behind this idea, and thinks the amount is an “unfortunate choice” — but it takes a special kind of person to come of with this crud and apparently that type of person supports Rudy Giuliani.

Ok, so the mix isn’t new but the website is, so I’m calling the mix new to make things simple. This is my first full-length published mix made with Ableton Live. This is definitely more on the progressive end than the psytrance end of things, but there are psytrance elements and most of the artists are psytrance artists. It starts off very mellow and ramps up to some more full-on stuff at the end. Some highlights for me are the first two Vibrasphere tracks, and then the X-Noise, Digitalis and Shuma tracks towards the end.
I hope you enjoy it, and if you’ve already enjoyed it I hope you enjoy it again!

Pardon my dust while I launch a brand new ryptidemusic.com. I plan to post more material more frequently, including a podcast of short mixes of various styles at random intervals. This will be the place to be to find out about my upcoming events and what I’m up to, music-wise. For other stuff, keep checking out my personal blog at ryptide.com or my tumblelog, various sundries.
If you’re looking for some older mixes that were up here, sit tight. I will get those back up soon, and into a more reasonable structure amongst these pages.
Thanks!

Apple said in a press release today that programs like iPhoneSIMFree used to unlock iPhones to run on carriers other than AT&T will “will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed.” and goes on to add that “he permanent inability to use an iPhone due to installing unlocking software is not covered under the iPhone’s warranty.”
I haven’t unlocked mine, as I’m fairly happy with my service on AT&T. I have installed third-party applications, however. Thankfully there is no indication that this refers to those programs, but only to the programs that modify the firmware to allow the device to operate on a different carrier’s network. I should be ok. I will say however that I’m really seriously hoping that an SDK is released to help improve the quality of third-party applications. The web applications are useless without data, and I have definitely seen a drop in stability with my device since I installed a few applications. A full restore takes me back to factory settings so I am not to concerned about it, but I’d like to see improvements.
I received an email from the Apple Developer’s Network today about some new Tech Talks regarding developments for the iPhone. It only mentioned web applications, so I’m not sure the SDK is any closer at all. It could be that Apple just wants to let someone else deal with it via crowdsourcing that they aren’t necessarily supportive of, but not overtly against either. They’ve kind of taken a “do it if you want but we make no guarantees” stance with the third-party non-unlocking applications.
