Art Imitating Life

Perhaps the phrase is a little too “high-brow” for comics, but this one from Savage Chickens is particularly accurate in today’s world.

Neat stuff

In India, students are learning ancient Vedic “tricks” for mathematics: Modern Students Devour Old Math

Microsoft’s new technology, Surface, looks really cool. I remember watching this video a while ago. Microsoft likely bought that technology, or possibly ripped it entirely. One wonders how they will screw it up. Apple already has at least one multi-touch device on the way, with the iPhone. I’m hoping a convertible touch-screen tablet MacBook pro is in the future. That would be awesome for tons of applications.

And lastly, to add to the pile of projects I haven’t yet started, I want to make one of these.

Edit: Regarding Vedic Math, commenter Sneha Mantri mentions vedicmathsindia.org, which seems to be a commercial website, but offers free material as well. I’ve also been checking out the related blog, which has some great stuff.

Gotta love the Bible Belt…

Police: 4 dead in mobile home, hanging infant still alive

What is with people? What has gotten mothers in Texas to act all psycho?

From the article:

Texas has seen a disturbing number of child killings by mothers in recent years.

Andrea Yates drowned her five children in the family’s Houston bathtub in 2001. In 2003, Deanna Laney beat her two young sons to death with stones in East Texas, and Lisa Ann Diaz drowned her daughters in a Plano bathtub. Dena Schlosser fatally severed her 10-month-old daughter’s arms with a kitchen knife in 2004.

Wow.

Great Interview with Ze Frank

I was hard-core addicted to The Show all last year until it ended this March.

This is an interview with Ze Frank, talking about his creative process during The Show and elsewhere, and general thoughts on creativity and so forth. Good stuff.

Picked up the link on 43folders.com, another favorite of mine.

Analog Twitter?

This is pretty neat, actually. Like twitter, but analog (you snail-mail in your updates) and much, much slower.
